REGIONAL, December 16, 2024: Dimapur Press Club celebrated its Silver Jubilee Monday at the Dimapur Government College Auditorium bringing together journalists, notable figures and guests to honor 25 years of journalistic work and community service.
Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, was the Special Guest and Yirmiyan Arthur Yhome, Deputy News Director for Asia-Pacific at The Associated Press, served as the Theme Speaker. The event's theme was "Harnessing Media Vibrancy, Embracing New Frontiers.” Kekhriesenuo Kiewhuo chaired the programme while Prasanjit Dutta and Henly Phom managed recordings.
In his address, Longkumer praised the Dimapur Press Club for its commitment to journalism and highlighted the press's role in shaping public opinion and connecting the government with the people. He stressed the importance of ethical journalism amidst misinformation.
Yhome spoke about the evolving media landscape, emphasizing the need for journalists to adapt to technology and audience changes. She addressed challenges like misinformation and the importance of credibility and accurate reporting.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, also congratulated the DPC, thanking the press for highlighting grassroots issues while urging them to cover positive developments and inspire change.
Dilip Sharma, Convenor of the Planning Committee, provided a brief history of the DPC, established in 1999 to support journalists in the area, promote ethical journalism and ensure press freedom. The club has organized many workshops and continues to inspire future journalists, maintaining its motto of "Truth and Justice.”
The Silver Jubilee marks a significant milestone in the DPC's contributions to journalism in Nagaland.
