Schedule for election to Office of the Vice President announced

NATIONAL, August 07, 2025: The Election Commission of India has officially announced the schedule for the election to the Office of the Vice-President of India. The Returning Officer PC Mody, Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha, has issued a public notice detailing the key dates for the electoral process, which will culminate in polling on September 9, 2025.
According to the notice, candidates and their representatives can file nomination papers at the Returning Officer's office in Room No RS-28, First Floor, Parliament House, New Delhi. The deadline for submitting nominations is Thursday, August 21, 2025, between 11 am and 3 pm.
Prospective candidates are required to accompany their nomination papers with a certified copy of their entry in the electoral roll. A security deposit of Rupees Fifteen Thousand (₹15,000) must also be made, either in cash with the Returning Officer or through a prior deposit at the Reserve Bank of India or a Government Treasury.
The scrutiny of all nomination papers will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11 am in Room No F-100, Sangoshthi-2, First Floor, Parliament House.
The deadline for the withdrawal of candidatures is Monday, August 25, 2025 by 3 pm
In the event of the election being contested by more than one candidate, polling will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 10 am to 5 pm at the designated polling place.
Nomination paper forms and further details can be obtained from the Returning Officer's office during the specified hours. The Assistant Returning Officers for the election are Garima Jain, Joint Secretary and Vijay Kumar, Director, Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
