Club official killed in a brazen gun attack in Agartala

Security forces deployed in MBB Airport area fearing reprisal

AGARTALA, April 30, 2024:  The secretary of a popular community club in Agartala was shot and killed in a brazen gun attack near the Tripura Frontier Headquarters of the BSF Tuesday evening. The victim, Durga Prasanna Deb, was the secretary of the Bharat Ratna Club, located near the MBB Airport.

Police said the murder was carried out by a group of assailants with ties to illegal mafia activities. Deb had received a phone call and went to the location where he was shot. 

It has been alleged that several officials of the Bharat Ratna Club were involved in illegal activities and construction racket. This has led to a number of murders in the area due to inter-gang conflicts.

Police reported that the assailants fired multiple rounds from small arms, hitting Deb in the head and chest. He was dead at the scene and declared brought dead at the hospital.

Senior police officials have inspected the crime scene and security has been increased in certain areas of the city in response to the shooting.
