Civil Defence volunteers training to reach 1% of the population
CM announced plan at 63rd All India Civil Defence and Home Guard Day

AGARTALA, December 06, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Saturday announced his government’s goal to train Civil Defence volunteers to reach 1% of the total population. In his speech at the 63rd All India Civil Defence and Home Guard Day held at the Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Stadium in Agartala, he highlighted the crucial role these volunteers play in disaster management and humanitarian efforts.
Dr Saha also noted that this year's parade featured an increased number of participants compared to previous years, expressing gratitude for their service. He underlined that December 6th is celebrated as a day to honour the dedication and sacrifices of Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers.
During his speech, he discussed the history of Civil Defence in India, mentioning its recognition in Tripura dating back to 1971 and its evolution under different administrative bodies.
At present, there are around 5,000 trained Civil Defence volunteers in Tripura, with training programs taking place at various centres. The Chief Minister stated that the state government aims to further expand the training to meet its population target.
On the other the central government is planning to enhance the skills of 3,000 Civil Defence volunteers by March 2026.
Chief Minster also shared information about the involvement of trained Apada Mitra volunteers and other support roles in disaster management activities, all aimed at making Tripura a disaster-resilient state.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials and dignitaries.
