“Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS): Sustainable Future”

REGIONAL, October 18, 2025: The Department of Sociology, Captain Williamson Sangma State University, Balalgre, is organising a One-Day Symposium on the theme “Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS): Sustainable Future” on October 22.
As part of the University’s commitment to advancing research and dialogue on indigenous knowledge, culture, and sustainable development, the symposium aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore the role of traditional knowledge in addressing contemporary challenges.
The Inaugural Session will commence in the morning on the University premises with Hema Nayak, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Keynote Address will be delivered by Prof Bodhi Sainkupar Rani, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Centre for Social Justice and Governance, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
The Valedictory Session will be held in the afternoon on the same day with Dr Vasanthi Vijaykumar, Vice Chancellor, Captain Williamson Sangma State University, as the Chief Guest.
The event will feature eminent resource persons from across the country and a wide range of participants from within the region adopting dialogue and collaboration on indigenous perspectives for a sustainable future.
