AGARTALA, October 21, 2019: CPI(M) has received a huge setback on Monday when its 15 elected members demanded dissolution of council’s executive body. The rebel members jointly served a notice to call immediate session of the council under Rule 159 of the TTAADC (Constitution, Election and Conduct of Business) Rules 1985.
15 members form majority in the 28 member council which has been under CPI(M) control since its inception.
The notice mentioned that “the existing Executive Committee, TTAADC, fails to fulfil the minimum needs of the people living in areas within jurisdiction of TTAADC”.
Rebel members met Governor Ramesh Bais in the evening to press their demand.
CPI(M) leaders preferred silence over the latest political crisis.
The rebels might join the BJP, sources said.
Election to the TTAADC is due in early next year.
