REGIONAL, April 02, 2025: Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha Member Biplab Kumar Deb Wednesday raised concerns about the unspent funds for various projects in the North Eastern states and asked about the plans of the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) to utilise them within the designated timeframe.
In response, Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia presented statistics and assured Deb that 10 percent of the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) under 54 central ministries is closely monitoring all procedures. The central government is making a concerted effort towards the overall development of the North Eastern states, as evident from the 106 percent increase in investment in the region by 54 central departments in the last 3 years.
Scindia also mentioned that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the entire central government is dedicated to the development of the region for the welfare of its people. While the current allocation may seem insufficient, the central government is already working towards additional investment for the overall development of the North Eastern region.
Scindia cited an example that in the last financial year, 54 ministries had a budget of Rs 51,000 crore, but spent Rs 1,2,374 crore proving their commitment to not only meeting targets but also increasing allocations.
