Archers Deepika and Atanu to tie nuptial knot on June 30

RANCHI, June 11 2020 (HS): Marriage of international archer and Olympian Deepika Kumari will be solemnised with Olympian Atanu Das on June 30.
Kumari is a resident of Ratu in Ranchi while Das belongs to Kolkata in West Bengal.
Kumari’s father Shiv Narayan Mahto informed he was worried about the preparation for marriage in view of prevailing health situation.
“This is lock down period and I have to do entire arrangement for marriage keeping direction of social distancing in mind. It is very much challenging task for me. However, I am happy getting opportunity of Kanyadan,” Mahto said informing about the date of marriage.
Sources close to Kumari’s family said it will be a three day function. “Rituals for marriage will start on June 28 and finally marriage will be solemnized on June 30. Limited guests are being invited to participate in the marriage ceremony,” one of the close relative of Kumari said.
Engagement of Kumari and Das had taken place on December 10, 2018. Present union minister Arjun Munda had participated in the event with his better half Meera Munda. It was expected that their marriage will be solemnized next year but this could not work out due to Tokyo Olympic preparation. Now the games being postponed for a year, they planned to get married.
26-yr-old Deepika remained top archer of the world. She has won gold in Common Wealth games. She has participated in Rio Olympic. 28-yr-old Das is also an international archer. Both have qualified for Tokyo Olympic.
Once they get married, the archer couple might be India’s second married couple to take part in Olympics together. In the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich Vece Paes and his wife Jennifer Paes became the first Indian married couple to take part in the Olympics.
