CPI(M) suspended a former West Bengal MLA from party membership

NATIONAL, October 27, 2024: The CPI(M) has suspended Tanmoy Bhattacharya, a former West Bengal MLA and senior leader, from party membership due to allegations of his alleged attempts to sexually harass a woman journalist. The journalist has claimed that Bhattacharya made inappropriate advances and touched her during an interview.
However, Bhattacharya has denied these allegations, stating that she had earlier interviewed him. The CPI(M) West Bengal state committee Sunday expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegation and its impact on the party's reputation.
As a result Bhattacharya has been suspended from the party and the woman's complaint has been forwarded to the party's internal complaint committee for further investigation.
