549 citizens rescued from scam centres in Myanmar
MEA said they were lured with fake job offers in restive country

NATIONAL, March 12, 2025: The Indian embassy in Thailand has successfully repatriated 549 Indian nationals who were lured with fake job offers and forced to work in scam centres near the Myanmar-Thailand border. The Indian nationals were repatriated through Mae Sot in Thailand on March 10 and 11 via two special flights.
The embassy in Thailand thanked the border authorities and @IndiainThailand for their support and reiterated its advice against such job offers in the area. The Indian embassy also advised Indian nationals to verify the credentials of foreign employers and check the antecedents of recruiting agents and companies before taking up job offers.
The embassy has been making sustained efforts to secure the release and repatriation of Indian nationals lured to Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, with fake job offers.
