NATIONAL, December 14, 2024: Meghalaya has been awarded the National Energy Conservation Award for its efforts in promoting energy efficiency reducing energy consumption and sustainability. The state has initiated several energy-saving measures, including reducing energy usage in manufacturing, investing in renewable energy, adopting energy-efficient technologies and notifying policies related to energy efficiency.
The award is based on indicators specified under the State Energy Efficiency Index and policies implemented across various sectors. The government has notified the Meghalaya Energy Conservation Regulation 2017, promoting the use of BEE star-rated appliances in public procurement, and launched the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy 2021, aiming to power 15% of the state's motor vehicles by 2025.
The recognition is a testament to the state's commitment to fostering a sustainable and resilient power infrastructure aiming to meet community energy requirements and establish a foundation for enhanced service reliability and sustainable energy.
