24 hour strike hits life in Tripura, peaceful

AGARTALA, December 12, 2019: 24 hours general strike called by opposition Congress in Tripura Thursday against alleged police attack on its anti CAB protest rally in Agartala took life and business out of gear in the state. The day witnessed a few stray untoward incidents, but it was by and large peaceful.
Police detained some Congress supporters for picketing on the streets. Heavy security arrangements were in place in view of the strike.
Tripura has been reeling under violence and tension since Monday as anti – CAB protestors enforced strike and blocked traffic. At least one person died and a few hundreds injured across the state till time of announcement of protest withdrawal on Wednesday night.
Scores of shops and vehicles were gutted in the protest flare. Hundreds of people took shelter in makeshift camps.
Paramilitary forces including Assam Rifles were deployed in sensitive areas. Tension continues to lash interior areas.
Internet services which was to revived Thursday afternoon as per government notification remained shut for an indefinite period.
