REGIONAL, February 01, 2025: The Department of Health & Family Welfare has cancelled 24 drug licenses for retail pharmacies in Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts in Nagaland due to non-compliance with several notices and a lack of time for registered pharmacists. This will result in the supply of medicines to illegal firms, a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act 1940 and its rules.
The department said it is committed to implementing this exercise in phases until all districts are screened and streamlined. If a license is not renewed within six months, it will be considered invalid, leading to imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of Rs One lakh or three times the value of confiscated drugs.
All licensed retailers and wholesalers are advised to register on the Online National Drugs Licensing System (ONDLS) Portal. The department acknowledges the cooperation of the district administration and the Commissioner of Police in executing enforcement activities.
