16th FC lauds Tripura's "well-managed" economy
Panagariya-led team discussed state's financial plans for 5 year period

AGARTALA, January 30, 2025: Arvind Panagariya, Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission, has stated that Tripura's economy is well-managed and in a sound financial position. Panagariya-led team held a discussion on Tripura's financial plans for the five-year period starting from the 2026-27 fiscal year attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Chief Secretary JK Sinha.
The state has presented a detailed projection of its expenditure and revenue collection for the upcoming five years with a decline in committed expenditure. Tripura has requested an increase in its share of taxes from 41% to 50%, aligning with similar requests made by several other Northeastern states.
Panagariya clarified that the state has submitted its expenditure and revenue forecast for the next five years, but a final decision by the Finance Commission is still pending.
