KOHIMA, January 18, 2020: 10th North East Dr T Ao Football Trophy 2020 to be held at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima from January 20 to 28. The tournament is jointly organised by the Government of Nagaland (Department of youth Resources & Sports) and Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and as per guidelines of the AIFF, under the theme: "Together we can soar".
Speaking at a press conference Adviser to CM Nagaland, Abu Metha said that Nagaland is hosting Dr T Ao Tournament for the second time under the initiative of Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio. He also added that the tournament is one of the biggest in the North East. It is in the memory of Dr Talimeren Ao, who is one of our legends in Football and first captain of Indian in Olympic game in 1948 and perhaps one of the greatest sons of Nagaland.
He said that this Tournament is named after him for the simple reason of his achievement, career and reputation which inspired every generation, not only this region but all over the country and added that we remain proud not only in sport but in nation building too.
Abu Metha informed that this year all the North Eastern states are participating and said that a total of Rs 22 lakhs 85 thousand rupees will be the prize money. The champion team will get Rs 10 lakh, runner-up Rs 6 lakh and third place Rs 2 lakh.
Technical aspects of the tournament will all be conducted by the All India Football Federation. The IG stadium has been up-graded with flood lights; locker room is also up-graded which are of telecast qualities. He also requested the people to be a part of this tournament.
