“My Musical Journey”
ELIZABETH KALAI
Music to me is life; my Parents knew that even before I could say ‘Mumma’.
They have always been supportive. They are not musically trained, yet my father used to teach me songs. We were not fortunate enough to get a professional music teacher, as my village was in a remote area. I remember him carrying me on his back across the paddy field every morning; he used to let me repeat the song after him line by line. By the time I turned three, he knew I was ready, that was when I started performing on the stage for the first time. Since then, there was no turning back. ![](https://indigenousherald.com/ImagesForAll/Elizabeth.jpg)
My entire schooling years were nothing but music. My teachers helped me balance between my studies and music at the same time. I learned about some technical knowledge about music in the school. I have shifted to different places for educational purpose, but I have never ceased to sing. I have been always blessed enough to meet supportive people in my life till date. During my college days in Meghalaya, I have been given an opportunity to represent the state in many prestigious platforms.
Presently, I am the Vocalist of the experimental rock band “The Nano”. Besides, I also perform solo in different places. Recently, I have performed in the prestigious show of Music Maestro AR Rehman’s “ARRIVED” in Mumbai and was selected among the 45 best singers of the country.
I have challenges in life but I never count them because ‘no struggle is painful when you do what you love’.
