
REGIONAL: The second edition of the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM), the largest international sports event in Mizoram, was officially announced at a press conference at Mizoram House, Guwahati, Wednesday. The event is set for February 14 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl.
The event's significance was presented by the dignitaries, including Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Minister of Sports, Tourism & Youth Services, who outlined its role in promoting sports excellence and tourism in the state.
The marathon expects over 5,000 participants from India and abroad, reflecting a substantial growth from its inaugural edition and is accredited by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) with support from multiple esteemed organizations.
Captain Rahul Bali, the curator of the marathon, explained that AIHM is now seen as a movement, aiming to inspire fitness and unity under the theme “CONNECTING INDIA, DEVELOPING MIZORAM, EMPOWERING SPORTS.” The marathon seeks to boost national integration and tourism in the region, using the symbolic date of Valentine's Day to promote health and harmony.
The total prize money for the marathon has been increased from ₹10 lakhs to ₹20 lakhs for the 2026 event, enhancing appeal for both elite and amateur athletes.
