WORLD: Bangladesh has been officially removed from the upcoming T20 World Cup with Scotland named as its replacement. This decision was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) Saturday following Bangladesh's refusal to play their scheduled matches in India due to security concerns.
The ICC stated that reworking the tournament schedule to meet the demand of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) citing security risks in India was deemed inappropriate after considering the broader context. Consequently, Scotland will replace Bangladesh in Group C alongside England, Italy, Nepal and the West Indies for the tournament starting on February 7, which is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The BCB requested to shift their games to Sri Lanka, but the ICC rejected this after determining there was no credible threat to the team's safety in India. Over a period of more than three weeks, the ICC conducted extensive discussions and independent security assessments, concluding that there were no justifiable security risks that warranted changes to the tournament's schedule.
