REGIONAL: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar Tuesday engaged with a media delegation from Karnataka during a courtesy meeting at Lok Bhavan in Shillong. This interaction was part of a Press Tour organised by the Press Information Bureau aimed at familiarising journalists with Meghalaya’s culture, heritage and development.

The Governor, a native of Mysuru, communicated in Kannada creating a warm atmosphere for discussion.

During the meeting, he provided insights into Meghalaya's unique socio-cultural fabric, focusing on its matrilineal system, tribal traditions, and community coexistence. The Governor presented the delegation with Ryndia, a traditional handwoven fabric, explaining the ethical significance of Ahimsa silk production. He also discussed Lakadong turmeric, known for its high curcumin content, stressing efforts to market it as a premium organic product to boost farmers’ income and the rural economy.

The media team expressed gratitude for the hospitality and the informative interactions, which are expected to enhance national awareness of Meghalaya.
