GK Rao, New CIC of Tripura, takes oath

AGARTALA, September 12, 2019: Governor Ramesh Bais administered oath of office and secrecy to new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) GK Rao at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Rao, former Chief Secretary, was serving as state election commissioner prior to this appointment.

Former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Manik Sarkar who was part of the search committee meant for appointment of new CIC opposed the selection. Sarkar alleged that GK Rao acted in a highly biased manner during election to three tier panchayats which according to him was ‘grossly manipulated in favour of ruling party’.
