AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha spoke on the vital role of women's empowerment in state development while speaking at the inauguration of the 3rd district-level Saras Mela at Bishramganj Mini Stadium Thursday. He highlighted the government's commitment to combating child marriage and recognised the contributions of child marriage-free Gram Panchayats and Village Committees describing child marriage as a social bane requiring collective action from various community members including public representatives and local workers.
Dr Saha reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that development hinges on the empowerment of women, showcasing progress made under the Tripura Rural Livelihoods Mission (TRLM), which is training women for improved livelihoods. The achievement of creating 118,000 'Lakhpati Didis' (women earning one lakh rupees) has seen 95% success, further stressing the importance of women's involvement in development.
