Kohima celebrates Sekrenyi cum Mini Hornbill

KOHIMA, February 25, 2020: Sekrenyi, also known as ‘Phousanyi’ the premier festival of the Angami Nagas was celebrated under the theme ‘Restoring Values’at Khuochiezie (Local Ground) Kohima Tuesday with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as Chief Host and President Sumi Hoho, Hekhushe Shikhu as Honoured Guest.
President Sumi Hoho, Hekhushe Shikhu addressing the gathering said that while the Angami and Sumi have agreed and worked together on many things and also disagreed on few things, they have always chosen to respect each other. He said “We will continue to work towards shaping our shared future with unity and brotherhood so that we prosper together.”
Shikhu said that many Sumi have left their own village and have chosen to live in Kohima as proud citizens. While stating that the Sumis have chosen not only to live but also be buried in Kohima he expressed his gratitude to the Angami landowners for providing sufficient land. He appealed to the Sumi community living in Kohima to be the chain of friendship and pillar of brotherhood between the Sumis and Angamis.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio addressing the gathering said that celebrating festivals require time, wealth, unity and peace, he stressed on the need for unity among the Nagas and expressed his hope that through this festival God will bless and give prosperity to the Angamis.
Advisor Youth Resources & Sports Er Zale Neikha also addressing the gathering said that with the State capital home to the Angamis, they should be more compassionate and welcoming to others who are living in Kohima.
The Sekrenyi cum Mini Hornbill festival will be celebrated from February 25 to 27 at Local ground in Kohima.
