“Accept generous giving, don’t force people”, CM tells clubs

AGARTALA, September 16, 2019: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Tripura has responded to complaints against clubs forcing people to contribute hefty donation to organise Durga puja. He made an appeal to the clubs to refrain from compelling ‘anybody for high amount as a Durga puja donation’.
Chief Minister tweeted his response after he ‘found someone complaining about Durga puja donation on social media’.
Four day long Durga puja which is slated to begin on October 5 has been largest socio-religious festival in Tripura.
Local media has been reporting on forceful collection of subscription from people at some places though there police have not yet received any formal complaint.
However social media was frequently discussing on the incidents of forceful collection by community puja organisers.
Deb in his tweet advised the clubs that “Durga puja donation in something which people should give willingly based on their capacity”.
Last year 2500 community Durga puja organised across Tripura. The number included 958 held within jurisdiction of Agartala Municipal Corporation.
