WW II: Remembrance Day observed at iconic war cemetery
The battle of Kohima scars serve as symbols of bravery, sacrifice and unity

REGIONAL, November 11, 2024: The Kohima War Cemetery maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is a significant site where 1,420 Allied soldiers and 917 Indian soldiers were buried and cremated. The cemetery is located on the grounds where the Battle of Kohima was fought, where brave soldiers fought hand-to-hand, ensuring freedom and democracy triumphed.
The battle scars serve as symbols of bravery, sacrifice and unity reflecting the lives of the Allied soldiers and the Naga people who played a crucial role in the battle. The British Deputy High Commissioner Dr Andrew Fleming and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio graced the Remembrance Day ceremony at the iconic war cemetery Monday.
They laid stress on the importance of honouring the legacy of the battle by fostering unity, compassion and a commitment to peace in communities.
A vintage car rally was flagged off by British Deputy High Commissioner Dr Andrew Fleming and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in the presence of colleagues, Ministers, Advisors, MLAs and other officers from the Central and State Government, Armed Forces, ex-servicemen and former Army Veterans.
