Violence in Bangladesh, Indian students are returning home
MEA reported 8,000 students are enrolled in colleges in Bangladesh

AGARTALA, July 20, 2024: The ongoing violence and security operations in Bangladesh, stemming from the anti-job quota protests, have had a severe impact on Indian students studying in the neighbouring country. Army columns have been deployed and a nationwide curfew has been imposed to restore order after spate of violence left at least 115 killed and few thousands injured.
Many Indian students, including those from Jammu & Kashmir, are enrolled in medical colleges in Bangladesh. Due to the escalating violence and instability, these students have been advised to return home.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has provided necessary support to the students through the High Commission in Dhaka and other missions in the country. So far a total of 978 students have returned to India through various immigration points and passenger flights.
A BSF official in Tripura which shares border with Bangladesh on its three sides, said 379 students have entered through the Agartala and Sonamura Integrated Check Posts (ICP) and BSF is providing assistance to these students.
The MEA reports that a total of 8,000 students are enrolled in colleges in Bangladesh and it is expected that more will return in the coming days.
