AGARTALA, February 12, 2024: The Tripura government has taken action to address the controversy surrounding the use of Roman script for the Kokborok language in upcoming board examinations.
The council of ministers, in a meeting on Monday, rejected the stance of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) and adopted a resolution allowing indigenous community students to use either the Roman alphabet or Bangla script.
Previously, TBSE had stated that only the Bangla script would be accepted for Kokborok in the exams. This decision sparked protests throughout the state.
Minister Sushanta Choudhury, who briefed the media about the decision, urged protesting students and youths to end their indefinite road and train blockade, which began on Monday. The protests have significantly disrupted normal life and vehicular traffic in various areas.
Police have reported no law and order incidents on the first day of the protest.
