KABUL, September 18 2021: At least three people died and about two dozen wounded in a series of blasts in Jalalabad city, east of Kabul, Saturday. Security analysts held ISIS (ISIL) responsible for the latest attack after Taliban stormed back to power ahead of withdrawal of foreign forces and staffers including that of the United States.
News agencies quoted unnamed witnesses to report five blasts at the city. The explosions specifically targeted Taliban security patrols, they said.
There has not been any official confirmation whether Taliban security members are among the casualties. But sources believed at least some of the victims were Taliban.
The injured were taken to the city hospitals.
Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province which was taken over by the Taliban without a fight last month.
Earlier, a couple of suicide bombings at Kabul airport on August 26 killed more than 180 people, 13 of them US Marines.
