GLOBAL, November 21 2023: The ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Israel and Lebanon are taking a heavy price from the media with 53 confirmed deaths and several injuries so far. Last 24 hours appeared to be the worst in weeks with fatalities of four journalists, three of them women.
International media watchdogs including RSF, IFJ and CPJ confirmed the death toll though Palestine authorities put the figure a bit high. The groups said among the fatalities 46 are Palestinians, 4 Israelis, and 3 Lebanese.
Shocking side of the whole gamut has been the death of a dozen of women journalists including acclaimed Farah Omar who died victim to a missile strike inside Lebanon. Her colleague Rabih Al Maamari also got killed in the action in current hostilities between Lebanese group Hezbollah and Israel.
The Israeli military said it was “looking into the details of the incident,” according to AFP.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) earlier told Reuters and AFP that it could not guarantee the safety of the journalists working in conflict ravaged zones.
Two female journalists Ala Tahir al-Hasanat and Ayat Haddura were killed in their homes by airstrikes at el-Bureij Refugee Camp on the Gaza Strip on Monday night.
