“Lachit Borphukan’s ‘Nation First’ Inspires Today’s Youth”

NATIONAL, November 24, 2024: On the 402nd anniversary of his birth, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal paid tribute to the great Ahom military commander Lachit Borphukan in New Delhi Sunday. He spoke on Borphukan's military brilliance in defeating the Mughal invasion of Assam which continues to inspire Prime Minister Narendra Modi's determination to protect the nation from foreign aggression and uphold its honor.
Sonowal stressed the values of self-reliance, courage and dedication to the country and called for the nation to strive towards building a strong, prosperous and self-reliant nation. The Battle of Saraighat, fought on the Brahmaputra waterways, was a crucial fight for the survival and dignity of the Assamese people.
Borphukan's exceptional leadership and bravery exposed the weaknesses of the Mughal Empire, serving as an inspiration for generations to come. In line with Borphukan's example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken decisive action to safeguard India's unity and integrity, ensuring the sovereignty of the nation.
The event commenced with floral tributes to Borphukan honoring his legacy as a hero of the 1671 Battle of Saraighat. It highlighted Borphukan's enduring impact on maritime heritage and national pride shedding light on his role in protecting India's sovereignty during his time.
