NEW DELHI, August 17 2022: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs Wednesday directed the Delhi government to stop a reported plan to relocate the Rohingya refugees to a new colony. It clarified that no direction was given to provide them EWS flats at Bakkarwala locality.
It was government of Delhi that proposed to shift the Rohingyas to a new place, MHA asserted. Government of Delhi has to ensure that the Rohingya foreigners will continue at the present location at Kanchan Kunj in Madanpur Khadar and declare the settlement as ‘Detention Centre’.
The MHA said to have already taken up the matter of deportation of illegal foreigners with the concerned country through the Ministry of External Affairs.
Illegal foreigners are to be kept in the ‘Detention Centre’ till their deportation as per law. The Government of Delhi has not done that so far, MHA said.
