CHENNAI, July 06 2020 (HS): A few police personnel in Coimbatore have landed in trouble for paying respect to a dead peacock in a very unusual way. Couple of police personnel from Singanallur Police Station in Coimbatore have paid last respects to a dead peacock by wrapping its carcass in the national flag.
This deed of the police personnel was videographed and put on social media. Soon after that it went viral and attracted severe criticism from the netizens.
Many felt wrapping of the dead bird in the national tri-colour was a violation of Flag Code of India. Coimbatore Commissioner of Police Sumit Sharan has ordered an enquiry in this regard.
However, the police personnel who paid the tributes to bird said they were not aware of such rules like Flag Code of India. They said their intention was to pay due respects to peacock which happens to be the national bird of our country.
The peacock is said to have met its end due to electrocution at a place not far away from the police station.
Policemen and a representative of an NGO recovered the carcass of the bird and handed it over to the forest department after paying tributes to it.
