Police issue alert against digital and crypto frauds

Said scammers operate from remote eastern border of Myanmar

AIZAWL, September 23 2022: Mizoram police Friday issued an alert over digital and crypto frauds being committed from across Myanmar. It warned that the Indian citizens are lured to travel across the international border and thus entrapped.

The police said some fraud IT companies with the bases in remote eastern borders of Myanmar have been engaged in digital scamming and forged crypto activities. They are recruiting Indian workers from different places with help of their agents on the pretext of providing potential employment opportunities in IT sector.

After initial recruitment, Indian workers are facilitated to enter Myanmar illegally without proper documentation leading to their entrapment, they stated.

A statement from the police department cautioned and urged people to exercise due diligence and verify the antecedents of the recruiting agents before taking up any employment abroad. “It is advisable to have all requisite information like job description, company details, location, employment and contract duly verified before accepting any overseas employment that is being offered”, it stated.
