NEW DELHI, July 08, 2024: The Supreme Court has directed that the Centre and National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit a report regarding the NEET UG paper leak case. The apex court has also asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide a status report on their investigation into the matter.
The apex court has set a deadline of 5 pm Wednesday for the NTA, Centre and CBI to submit their reports. The bench, consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra was hearing a group of petitions related to the NEET-UG exam.
These petitions allege irregularities and malpractices in the medical test and request a retest to be conducted. The Chief Justice of India acknowledged that the integrity of the exam has been compromised, but stated that the extent of the leak must be determined before ordering a retest.
The court felt that cancelling the exam should be a last resort. The case will be heard again Thursday.
The NTA is responsible for conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG, which is used for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in both government and private institutions throughout the country.
