REGIONAL, November 15, 2024: Nikhamoni Bora, a 23-year-old water sports enthusiast from Assam, has become the first certified female sailor in the state inspired by athletes like Hima Das and Lovlina Borgohain. Her achievements including winning three windsurfing titles and earning awards have gained recognition.
Despite facing societal pressure initially, Bora found her passion for water sports through the National Cadet Corps and received support from her family, as well as corporate sponsors like Cairn. Thanks to Cairn's sponsorship, she was able to access top-notch training, leading to success in kiteboarding.
Bora now aims to mentor young girls interested in water sports in her village and beyond. As India prepares for the 2036 Summer Olympics, investing in future athletes, particularly through corporate support, is crucial for elevating the country's sporting profile globally.
