Mesmerising experience for students, astronomy enthusiasts

BADARPUR, September 30 2023: The Night Sky Observation Event named as “Nightgazing Party” held Friday at the premises of Progressive School in Badarpur was a mesmerizing experience for over 300 students and astronomy enthusiasts. Students from neighbouring schools also joined to take the benefit of the event and a multiple numbers of common people and guardians also were present.
The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Chief Guest Dr Himadri Sekhar Das, Associate Professor of Assam University from the Physics department along with three other distinguished guests, Khitish Chandra Nath, Principal of Badarpur Railway Higher secondary school; Dr Biplob Karmakar, Principal of Luwarpua Adarsh Vidyapith; and Anam Uddin Ahmed, ZPC Member of Srigouri were also present. It was a night filled with wonder and awe as attendees explored the wonders of the cosmos through telescopes.
Programme was started with the opening song 'Aguner Poroshmoni judao praney' by Pardika Sultana and Bornima Dhar. Gaurav Roy, teacher of the school delivered the welcome speech.
Two students of the school Umama Mohsina and Luvava Mohsina also delivered short speech on space and space missions.
Chief Guest Dr Himadri Sekhar Das, a renowned astronomer and educator, began the event with an inspiring speech and talk on the importance of astronomy and the wonders of the night sky on the topic “Exploring the Universe: Wonders of Astronomy”. Dr Das conducted an interactive session with the students on Astronomy.
All the distinguished guests who were present on that day delivered their values speeches for the students and advised them to build their scientific temperament.
The heart of the event was the opportunity for students to observe celestial objects like Moon, Ring of Staurn and moons of Saturn through telescope. Two telescopes were set up at the school premises. Attendees marveled at the beauty of the rings of Saturn, and the craters on the Moon.
In the practical session Bhaskar Goswami, Biki Prasad and Burhan Uddin, PhD scholars of Assam University from the Physics department guided the students to observe the celestial objects clearly.
The Night Sky Observation Event was a resounding success, bringing together students, experts, and the Chief Guest, who inspired everyone with their passion for astronomy. The programme concluded at 8.30 p.m.
The entire program was conducted smoothly by Shomsul Hoque, teacher of the Progressive School.
