NERAMAC organises hosts two-day event to promote Millet
Also to raise awareness about benefits of millets consumption

REGIONAL, September 05, 2024: The North-Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) organised a two-day event titled "Promotion of Millets Production in India" Thursday to raise awareness and promote the benefits of millets consumption. The event, which began at Meghalaya Rongali Bihu Auditorium in Shillong, aims to generate awareness and increase farmers' production.
The event highlights the importance of millets as a 'super food' and calls for greater convergence between institutions to ensure their success.
Commodore Rajiv Ashok, Managing Director of NERAMAC, highlighted the benefits of millets products and their potential as an alternative to rice. He also praised the Government of India's efforts towards millets, leading up to the recognition of it as the International Year of Millets. Horticulture Adviser M Iboyaima Meitei commended NERAMAC's efforts in the Agri-Horti sector and the promotion of millets.
Millets have always been part of our ancestors' diets and are essential for food security, agri-diversity, and its nutritious nature. The State Government is working in Mission Mode to ensure a sustainable future with millets.
The event showcased a variety of millet products, including raw grains, ready-to-cook items and ready-to-eat items. Around 200 beneficiaries participated, including millet farmers and entrepreneurs from Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The event is supported by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
