NATIONAL, July 12, 2024: The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda Friday conducted a review of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) with senior officials from the National Health Authority (NHA). The schemes have achieved significant milestones, including the distribution of 34.7 crore Ayushman Cards and 7.35 crore hospital admissions.
During the meeting, the NHA presented a plan to strengthen the network of impanelled hospitals and effectively engage with them. The Prime Minister's vision of providing universal health coverage and benefiting the most needy and vulnerable sections of society through AB PM-JAY was emphasized.
Nadda directed the NHA to ensure that the benefits of these visionary schemes reach the most needy and vulnerable sections of society. He also suggested a bottom-up approach to strengthen and expand the creation of Ayushman cards, particularly in urban areas and metropolitan cities.
He advised keeping systems flexible and agile to ensure a smooth enrollment process. The use of smart technology tools was also recommended to directly connect with beneficiaries and collect their hospitalization and treatment experiences, ultimately improving healthcare service delivery.
The Union Health Minister was also briefed on the fraud detection and prevention measures taken by the NHA, which have significantly enhanced the efficiency of the scheme. Furthermore, he reviewed the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), developed by the NHA in collaboration with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
The NHCX will enable paperless settlement of claims submitted by hospitals to insurance companies, providing the IRDAI with a real-time dashboard view of the claims' settlement status.
