NATIONAL, April 21, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday said it is important to allow central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and CBI to operate independently without interference from the government or political parties. In an interview with a private news channel, when asked about allegations of misuse of these agencies, he stated that they are simply carrying out their duties and, even as the prime minister; he has no authority to intervene in their work.
Modi added that instead of questioning the agencies about doing their job, the opposition is questioning why they are doing it. Modi also highlighted the significant increase in the number of searches conducted by the ED since 2014, with a total of 7 thousand searches compared to only 84 before 2014, demonstrating the efficiency of the agency.
Replying to another question, the Prime Minister reiterated his government's focus on empowering every citizen, particularly the poor and reducing the burden on them.
