Minor sisters found hanging from tree in Assam village

GUWAHATI, June 13 2021: Sensation is prevailing in Assam after two minor sisters had been found hanging from a tree in a village in Kokrajhar district of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of the state even as the family members have suspected that the two siblings were raped and killed.
The bodies of the two siblings were recovered late on Friday evening inside a small forest in Abhayakuti village of the district, a senior police officer said. The bodies were sent to Kokrajhar Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, he said.
"A case has been registered. We will be able to tell after receiving the post-mortem reports," the officer said
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who rushed today to meet the family members of the deceased and take stock of the situation, has directed police to unearth cause of death of two minor girls.
The CM visited Abhayakhuti in Kokrajhar district and interacted with the bereaved family and conveyed his deep sympathy to them. The CM assured the family that the government stands firmly by the family at this time of their distress.
The Chief Minister later told the media that he visited the family to personally take stock of the incident. He informed that IGP in charge of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and SP Kokrajhar had been asked to do an expeditious investigation to unearth the cause of death of the two minor girls.
Further saying that women safety always remains top priority of the Assam government; the Chief Minister averred that atrocity in any form against the poor too shall not be tolerated.
BTC Chief Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary were also present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
Villagers were shocked at the incident. Locals also said the two sisters had been missing since Friday afternoon.
