KARIMGANJ, November 19 2023: Under the auspices of the Department of Botany & Biotechnology and with the support of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Karimganj College hosted a commemorative event, the Pranobendu Bhattacharchee Memorial Guest Lecture on November 18. The event took place at the college's gallery hall and saw a distinguished gathering of esteemed guests, scholars and students.
The inaugural session, chaired by Dr Ramanuj Chakroborty, the Principal of Karimganj College, was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof AP Das as the Chief Guest and Resource Person. Adding to the dignified assembly was Priyanka Yumnam, ACS, Assistant Commissioner, who attended as the guest of honour, alongside Dr Partha Sarathi Das, Head of Department of Botany & Biotechnology, Gadapani Sharma, Department of Economics & and Dr PK Nath.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by the students of the department through a melodious welcome song. Dr PS Das delivered the welcome address, followed by engaging discussions and addresses from Dr PK Nath, the Guest of Honour and Prof AP Das, the Chief Guest. Principal Dr Ramanuj Chakroborty shared insights on biodiversity and emphasized the critical need for conservation in his presidential address. Dr Subrata Das from the Department offered a vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the inaugural session.
The event then transitioned into its second phase, featuring Prof AP Das delivering the memorial lecture on "Biodiversity, Traditional Knowledge & Conservation." Using dynamic PowerPoint slides, Prof Das adeptly covered various facets of the topic, engaging the audience with a lucid and compelling presentation. The lecture was followed by a lively interactive session, allowing students and guests to actively engage with the esteemed resource person.
The instrumental valedictory songs, presented by Dr PK Nath, marked the conclusion of the program, which was impeccably conducted and coordinated by Dr Sumi Das Purokayastha from the department.
The guest lecture program garnered participation not only from the teachers of Karimganj College but also from other esteemed institutions. Notable attendees included Dr Sanjib Kar, Dr S Debnath, Dr SH Choudhury, Rajat Shubro Paul, AJ Choudhury, Ranjit Biswas, Gadapani Sharma and several others, enriching the discourse with their presence and contributions.
