REGIONAL, December 04, 2024: Security forces in the hills of Manipur are on high alert for the Thursday’s funeral of 12 Kuki-Zo youths, including the 10 killed in a gunfight with the Central Reserve Police Force in Jiribam district. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum has called for a general strike in hill districts as a mark of respect to the deceased.
The corpses were taken from the mortuary and sent to their respective families. The funeral of 12 youths will take place in Churachandpur, which is largely dominated by the Kuki-Zo tribes.
Apex Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum has also called for a complete shutdown in Churachandpur from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in honor of the deceased men. The funeral will be attended by Ginzalala, who is the Adviser (Technical) to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and a MLA of the ZPM, a Zo clan dominated party.
The funeral programme has been divided into two sessions: the first at 11 am in Peace Ground in Tuibuong, and the second at Martyrs Cemetery in Sehken, where the deceased will be given a "gun salute" by village volunteers.
