Legendary Dr Rathin Datta no more, dies at 91

AGARTALA, January 27, 2020: One of most acclaimed surgeons in eastern India, Dr Rathin Datta, passed away owing to old age complications Monday morning. He was 91.
News of demise of recipient of Padma Shri for his immense humanitarian contribution during war of liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 created a pall of gloom in Tripura which was his home till settling down in Kolkata in later part of his life.
Dr Rathin Datta served as the Director of Health Department as well as Special Secretary during his stint in the government service. He was actively associated with various charitable and social activities.
Tripura government had felicitated him on January 22 last year as a mark of respect.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed grief over demise of the celebrated physician. In a condolence message he recalled how he and his team created medical infrastructure in Tripura.
