Called 12-hour general strike in Tripura to protest murder

AGARTALA, July 13, 2024: The situation in Tripura's Ganda Tuisa subdivision in Dhalai district is grave. Shops and houses have been burnt and looted, causing tension in the area following the death of a tribal youth.
“The ruling party BJP and TIPRA Motha are being held fully responsible for this tension”, CPI(M) state secretary leader of opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, who made the allegations at a press conference here Saturday.
During the press conference, the CPM demanded that the government hold a peace meeting with representatives from all communities, enforce security measures until peace is restored, provide a government job for the family of the deceased young man and compensate all those affected by the destruction of shops, houses and cattle.
Chowdhury also appealed to the people to work towards preventing such untoward incidents from happening again, and to maintain peace and harmony in the area.
CPI(M) leader murdered, party calls strike
In protest to the death of party leader Bimal Shil, who was a candidate for the Zilla Parishad constituency in the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, the CPI(M)-led left front has called for a 12-hour general strike in Tripura tomorrow.
Jitendra Chowdhury announced this during the press conference, stating that the victim, who sustained serious injuries on Friday, passed away at the GBP Hospital Saturday.
