NATIONAL, July 12, 2024: The central government Friday decided to commemorate the June 25 every year as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' (Constitution Murder Day). This decision was revealed by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah who stated that the 1975 Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister was a display of a dictatorial mind-set.
The day will commemorate the contributions of those who endured the inhuman pains of the Emergency. The Union Home Minister emphasised that the decision was taken to honour the spirit of millions who struggled to revive democracy despite facing persecution.
The observance of 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' will help keep the flame of individual freedom and democracy alive in every Indian preventing any dictatorial force from repeating the horrors of the 1975 Emergency, he stated.
