Internet, SMS services restored in Tripura

Agartala, December 13, 2019: Internet and SMS services which were banned in Tripura Tuesday owing to violent incidents owing to anti-CAB protests restored on Friday afternoon.
The ban was initially imposed for 48 hours and was extended for another 24 hours Thursday afternoon.
Internet services were also withdrawn in neighbouring Assam and Meghalaya states withdrawn for an indefinite period owing to state’s volatile situation in wake of violent anti-CAB protests.
Tripura was hit by violence and tension since Monday as anti – CAB protestors enforced strike and blocked traffic at many places.
At least one person died and dozens injured across the state till time of announcement of withdrawal of protest Wednesday night.
Scores of shops and vehicles were gutted in the protest flare. Hundreds of people took shelter in makeshift camps.
Paramilitary forces including Assam Rifles were deployed in sensitive areas. Tension continues to lash interior areas.
