REGIONAL, November 25, 2024: Kohima celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence Monday. This campaign aims to raise awareness, challenge harmful social norms, and promote actions to end violence against women and girls.
It takes place annually from November 25 to December 10, which is also Human Rights Day. The goal of the campaign is to mobilise government organisations and individuals worldwide to speak out against violence and advocate for stronger laws and policies.
Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN, emphasized the importance of collective action and accountability in creating safer and more equitable societies. He also pointed out that while Nagaland is often considered one of the safest states in the country, there are still many instances of violence against women that go unseen, particularly within homes and neighbourhoods.
