Indo-French Liver and Metabolic Disease Network launched

NATIONAL, July 05, 2024: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh Friday launched the Indo-French Liver and Metabolic Disease Network (InFLiMeN), a virtual platform aimed at preventing and curing metabolic liver diseases. The initiative specifically targets non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that can lead to cirrhosis and primary liver cancer.
India has emerged as a global leader in curative and preventive healthcare, highlighting the need for simple and cost-effective diagnostic tests to detect different stages of fatty liver disease and its potential progression to more severe conditions. Dr Singh underlined the importance of a joint, multidisciplinary collaborative programme like InFLiMeN to gain a comprehensive understanding of the development, progression and management of liver diseases through the use of omics approaches for biomarker discovery.
He also stressed the need for generous funding to support cutting-edge scientific research and commended Prof Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of DST, the department and the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPERA) for their efforts in implementing this innovative approach proposed by ILBS. The network brings together 11 French and 17 Indian doctors to work jointly towards this goal.
