India dominates first day of 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest
With a 4-0 victory over Morocco in open section and in women's event

NATIONAL, September 12, 2024: India dominated the first day of the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, with a 4-0 victory over Morocco in the open section and a 3.5-0.5 win in the women's event. R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna and Arjun Erigaisi of the Indian team took an early lead against Morocco.
In the women's event, Vaishali defeated Adani Clarke, Tania Sachdev overcame Gabriella Watson and Divya Deshmukh defeated Rachel Miller. Vantika Agarwal was the only player to be held to a draw by Raehanna Brown.
The 12-day biennial event features over 1,800 players, and India had previously won bronze medals in both categories in the last edition.
