GMC cleanliness drive plan on World Environment Day

Guwahati, May 6, 2019: As a part of celebration ofWorld Environment Day on June 5, 2019, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is going to organize awareness programmes in all the 31 wards in the city to generate awareness for the protection of the environment through cleanliness. The Joint Commissioner of GMC Siddhartha Goswami informed it while taking part in the the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting for the month of Mayheld at the conference hall of the office of the Director General, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Guwahati.
The theme of today’s meeting was “Cleanliness in Guwahati city”.
Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, who is also the Chairman of IMPCC, Assam Chapter, chaired the meeting. Dhatwalia in his address highlighted the activities done by the office of the DG, Ministry of I&B, Guwahati last year as part of cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Mentioning it as just a beginning he said that cleanliness should be a continuous process and everyone should join hands together to keep the city clean.
In cleanliness process GMC, GMDA and Guwahati Smart City Limited is giving special effort, but something more is required to be done and all other departments should also cooperate with them, Dhatwalia said.
Representatives from different Government departments took part in today’s meeting and talked about the activities taken by their departments related to cleanliness in the office campus and surroundings. Participants also shared their views and gave their suggestions at the end of the meeting.
