GUWAHATI, January 20 2021: Fulfilling the commitment, the BJP led State government in Dispur recently handed over offered financial assistances to surrendered militants of armed outfit NDFB. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the distribution of financial aids to the militants at a function held in the city.
Hailing the Bodo community for their work culture and bravery, Sonowal called on the youths of the tribe to work for the society with their talents & abilities and strive for strengthening peace and harmony among all sections in the society. He commented that the BTR accord generated lots of hope among the people in Assam and its credits go to PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit
Shah.
Mentionable is that out of total 1615 members of all four NDFB factions, who laid their arms following the BTR agreement, 1279 were present today in the function to receive rupees four lakh fixed term deposit certificates each. The rest of NDFB members are expected to offer the same benefits after the completion of necessary procedures.
Addressing the surrendered militants, Sonowal urged them to make a fresh start in life and assured that the Centre and State governments along with BTC administration would always extend their supports in this endeavour. He called on them to utilise the financial assistance judiciously.
“The fixed term deposit certificates will enable them to take bank loans for agriculture, livestock farming, setting small industries, etc apart from taking advantages of various government schemes,” said Sonowal adding that the government would initiate for skill development trainings to the beneficiaries.
In presence of State police Chief Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, GOC of 4 Corps of Indian Army lieutenant general Shantanu Dayal, CM’s legal adviser Shantanu Bharali with other dignitaries, Sonowal revealed that the government approached the Gauhati High Court for disposing the pending cases against the surrendered militants according to laws.
He also added that the militants along with their families would get benefits under Atal Amrit Abhiyan Pramod Bodo, the newly elected chief executive member of BTC, thanked the governments for showing respect towards the three decade long struggle of the Bodo people for safeguarding their identity and ending the uncertainties prevalent in the Bodo dominated areas through the historic accord. He added that the BTC authorities constituted a committee to oversee the rehabilitation of surrendered militants and also engaged five advocates for speedy resolution of pending cases against them.
